Design a Deck
A deck is a popular home improvement, and increases the value of your home while providing your family a place to enjoy outdoors. Planning is the most important part of building a deck because you will be living with your design for a long time. To design a deck you will need to consider: how you plan to use your deck, location of the deck, and size.
When you design a deck the most important thing to consider is how you will be using it. Do you entertain, if you do how large of a group typically? What kind of seating do you want and how much of it will you need? Will you need adequate lighting to entertain at night? What you will need to do when you design a deck is imagine all the ways you would like to use it. The design elements will be based on that preference.
The location of your deck mostly depends on the orientation of your property and house limits, but even when considering those two things when designing a deck you have a lot of choices. You may be able to add a door, walkway, or even a privacy screen that will allow you to locate your deck where its convenient and still provide privacy. When you design a deck you should also consider the climate in your area. Southern or western orientations may be too warm in the summer months, unless you include a screen or build the deck around a shade tree. Careful placement of your deck can minimize traffic noise, eliminate unwanted views, or provide privacy.
When you design a deck you can make it what ever size you want within legal limits. Consider the size of your deck to the proportion to your house. If you think your dream deck is too large for your house, you can break up the size by utilizing multiple levels and building smaller sections. Test your ideas, measure the size you want on your lawn, using stakes in the corners and tieing off the measurments you can see how you deck idea will look.
